If only class B wiring was required [<24 v], you could pull it off.
Each LED runs at less than 24 volts, the last time I checked.  MR16s
are in the same category but more wattage; you see them overhead in
restaurants fed by bare wires frequently. Data doesn't need a
NEC-compliant conduit in any case, as it is just a few volts normally,
if DMX, ACN, or other signals running through #20-#24awg CAT5 or CAT6
are a typical example. Think Outside The Box!
