Kristi,

Thanks! The Bureau of Labor Statistics does have a lot of the data, but
it's difficult to sort out exactly where the lines fall.  The biggest thing
I found was that the data doesn't accurately reflect how the industry sees
itself.

For instance, under Theater companies, we find the following occupations:
Costume attendants
Fashion designers
Craft artists
Entertainers and performers, sports and related workers, all other
Designers, all other
First-line supervisors of non-retail sales workers
Tailors, dressmakers, and custom sewers

All of these could be mapped onto the various jobs you'd find in a costume
shop.   Taking costume attendants, we find they're employed in these
industries:
Theatre companies
Amusement parks
Promoters of performing arts, etc.
Casino hotels
Accountants and payroll services (200 of them)
Local government
Colleges, state
College, private

Which is why I decided to go the tack of doing a survey and seeing where we
get, since that seems at least as reliable as the data from the BLS...
