These are fine, this being what they are designed for. Provided that
they are properly fitted, so that the strain is always dead vertical.
There should always be a ring fitting somewhere near the top of the
flat, through which the hoist line passes.
I once had our Master Carpenter build me a light box to hang ove a
set. I was slightly alarmed when I saw it, thinking it far too heavy.
Still, whe flew it up and dead hung it. It was fine through the run.
Unfortunately, I was unable to be present at the get out. The crew
managed to get it on the piss, and the hangers are not designet to
take this sort of loading, especially when secured by 1"#8 woodscrews!
First one and then another hanger pulled off, and we had to replace a
couple of boards in the stage floor. Mercifully, nobody was beneath it
at the time.
