For what it’s worth, I shot an interview a few years back with a guy who
investigated/interrogated this “rule” (among others) for a book about things
your mother told you or some such. His conclusion vis-à-vis the 5 Second
rule was that botulism knows no waiting period: If there’s poison on the
ground, it transfers instantly – if there isn’t, thirty seconds won’t
matter.
