For what its worth, I shot an interview a few years back with a guy who
investigated/interrogated this rule (among others) for a book about things
your mother told you or some such. His conclusion vis-à-vis the 5 Second
rule was that botulism knows no waiting period: If theres poison on the
ground, it transfers instantly if there isnt, thirty seconds wont
matter.
