It's been my experience when organic fibers get wet, they shrink, and
are not usually expandable or stretchable.  Yes, when new and/or just
out of a box or bundle, they do stretch slightly.  You could certainly
just step on or push down on the bottom batten and see if it could be
stretched, but more likely to stretch that far while dry.
