At That price range I'd second the recommendation for the Behringer
X32. It's got the best features of a board in that range. Anecdotal
evidence suggests they are lasting at least 3 years, and there is now
a "compact" version if there are space limitations.
I haven't used the Presonus desks yet, but I have had flavours of
their Firewire interfaces and had all 4 of them break within 2 years
of purchase.
