For those of you who do work on your knees...

"KG's Boot Guard" available from Gemplers and "Protective epoxy for boots" available from McMaster-Carr both work well for protecting or restoring worn boot toes.  The latter is also a very good, if rather pricey, flexible adhesive for other purposes
