I built one a few years ago. It’s in the barn right now, and I don’t want to wade through 36” of snow, so I’ll try to speak from memory:

I picked up a CD drive from a used computer parts / recycling store. I opened it up and found which wires connected to the motor and wired in my simple controller. I just used a wall-wart and a double-throw / centre off rocker switch to open / close the tray. I then mounted the tray housing to an old metal bookend with a single bolt and wing nut. (To adjust the angle.) A bit of BlackWrap on the tray, and there you have it.

Set the unit beside the lens, and adjust the angle - depending on whether the lens is higher or lower than the unit - so that the tray when extended covers the lens.

I also used connectors (I think I used modular telephone, but may have been CAT 5) between the device and the control switch, so I could use an extension cable and not have to be right next to the projector.

	I hope this helps.
