did a scene including a lighthouse once
painted upon the "cyc wall"  (drywall ~ 1/2" thick)
drilled a hole. placed light bulb behind it;
worked OK... IFF you were on-axis.
put a piece of silk gel (R104?) in front of it,
worked fine for full width of house.
