Are you talking about that big scissors looking thing grafted onto an open sided batten clamp?  an old time "mashup"…..?

If you're a USITT member you can log onto their library and check out the JR Clancy catalogues .    They'll be in there….likely as far back  as, at least , the 1903-04 version.

That version has the "bottom" piece of hardware, the "Floor stay".   I've got a picture in some older stagecraft textbooks (like  Philippi's Stagecraft from 1953)

I think I've seen it with a name referencing the MET Opera as well.  ---
