What Kristi said. Also, drink a *ton* of water. If there is a lot of phlegm involved, try cough drops with menthol. Gargling with warm salt water is often helpful. (Spit - Don't swallow the water). 

Also good, a "Blueberry Tea" - add a shot of Amaretto and a shot of Grand Mariner to a mug (or snifter) of hot tea (preferably orange pekoe). Tastes like blueberries, and both the steam and the drink are very soothing on the throat.
