Sorry - I should have added spacing considerations.  Practically,
there's a bit of a hurtle to do better than 8" centers (average) with
motors in my opinion - splitting motors stage left and stage right and
then staggering high and low or on and off stage and reeving lines
between sets; while 6" (or my preferred 7") is common with
counterweight and 4" not unheard of.  In a refit, there could be
substantial structural framing modifications and additions as well.
In new, it's probably a wash.  But relatively, steel is cheap.
