Train your board operator to not rest anything on the desk in front of the
console.

or

Put the subs for such effects in Sub 1 through Sub 20 - don't store anything
in subs 41 through 60.

If you do not do any manual level changes during the show, you can run the
show with the rotary switch fully counterclockwise. This will put the subs in
the top row.

or

Create an inhibitive submaster containing the address controlling the
flashing. Use it to inhibit the output until just before the effect is to be
used. (I think this will work).
