building probably not old enough,
but if it originally had a non-GFCI outlet,
could likely have been wired daisy-chain style,
then outlet replaced with GFCI device
without changing wiring,
which would leave the light (et al) on the protected downstream side of the
GCI ?
definitely NOT recommended, you want lights & outlets
on different circuits so if you trip a breaker
(like by getting a power tool jammed in the cut)
you don't simultaneously get a blackout
