The short throw projectors in the link are about 1/4 the lumens of a S4 ellipsoidal.
                                         --------------------

It sounds like the system you all want is a Media server setup, run by a lighting console, programmed by a BO with Lighting and Media server experience. With a VD creating the content.

You want to replace a system of lights somewhere between 1:1 and 4:1 lights:replacement-projectors, that can have interchangeable lense options like a S4, with a luminous output similar to a S4 or up to quadruple. Talking lumens in the 10-40,000 range.

You want them to have reliable moving yokes.
You want the signal to be sent by fiber, then split into DMX and video content onboard the fixture.
And you want them to rent for somewhere in the range of a ML.

Did I miss anything?

The people for this aren’t hard to find!. The equipment is available, though still in the clunky zone. Getting it at every-house-rental-prices is a few years off. In truth the option to do what you are describing exists now except for the budget parameter implied throughout the dialogue chain.

So in response to the original email…Yes, Kim, there is a Santa Clause, and I think it’ll take fewer than 10 years, and the projector source will be white LED. But no, Programmers will not be out of a job, they’ll still be able to use consoles, if they upgrade themselves to learn the new fixtures.
