Hi Chris,

If the marley is brand new, and has dings in it, you might want to bring it up to the manufacturer. Also, ask them for advice on how to repair this issue with their product and how to prevent it.

Merde!

I have a compass here that's a bit fancier than my old Boy Scout one.
On the back is a chart that has 4 columns, the titles are

0-360 angle, 0-6400 angle, % gradient, Distance

example row

7, 125, 12, 1/8

I don't remember anything like this chart (of course in my Boy Scout
days we hadn't discovered America yet). Anyone know how to use the chart?

Those correspond to

Angle in degrees
Mil (angular mils - used in artillery and could be in fireworks)
Percentage of the quadrant (7 degrees is 12 percent of 90)
rise in 1 unit, at 7 degrees the rise in one foot is 1/8 unit, I do not
remember if that is one unit of slope or base

Pretty much the m.o. for all prop houses in LA. One either goes and browses or send them some research images of what you're looking for and call them. They are really helpful there.
My studios are right down the road if you need some help.

Question for the folks who work internationally: Do you file an ATA CARNET
for your personal hand tools?

I have one Pelican case that has basic tools of my trade (multimeter,
labeler, a bag of screwdrivers/wire strippers/etc, portable soldering iron,
12V drill, etc). Stuff I use frequently and don't want to waste time
sourcing locally or constantly borrowing.

I've traveled in and out of Brazil twice and no one batted an eye at the
Pelican case. However on Sunday I'm flying to Thailand, and I'm being told
I need to file an ATA CARNET. The total cost to get same day ATA CARNET
service is upwards of $400. At that point I might as well just par down my
essentials even further and buy the rest locally.

So I'm curious if others have had any issues flying with tools?

Thanks!
Michael

Hi, my new marley floor is unrolled, and it looks good, but there are
few small impressions in it, which I'll call "dings" that aren't going
away. It isn't a big deal, but I was thinking of laying something
warm and heavy on them in the hope of getting rid of them. Any
advise? Chris
