For best results you need a liquid with the same refractive index as
the plastic. Acrylic has a refractive index of about 1.49, water is
only 1.33 so the cracks are likely to still be fairly visible.
However, a 75% solution of sugar in water has a refractive index of
1.477, very nearly perfect - go for 80% and it will probably be spot
on!

And if it dries out, it will help the panes stick together :)
