[SML] TSA compliant" multitool

As has been pointed out, a few of the manufacturers make tools that are
(or were as of a certain date) TSA compliant (SOG, Leatherman, etc.). As
has also been pointed out, if it appears to not meet guidelines, or
appeals to the screener¹s sense of ³SHINY! MUST HAVE!², it¹s going to go
away. I wouldn¹t put any major investment (time, in the case of the
homemade, or cash, in the case of the SOG) into something that I know I¹d
need and highly suspect would be stolen.

For those who put their tool cases into checked luggage, is there any
value to doing something like running wire rope through the lanyard holes,
etc. of things likely to walk and throwing a lock on it? That way they
could be seen and checked but maybe not stolen (esp. if the wire also goes
through a ring on the inside of the case). I know that won¹t work so well
for some things like flashlights. Just something so that they can do what
they need to do (visually inspect the Scary Shiny things), but would have
too much trouble ripping something off.

Thankfully I don¹t fly much; the TSA has sucked all the fun out of the
experience. I find myself wholly in agreement with DV regarding the fine
folks responsible for keeping our travels safe.
