[SML] Dragging a mailbox across a stage.....

Ok, so we're doing "Kimberly Akimbo" - and the director wants one of the
blue, USPS-style street-side letterboxes for the character that steals it.
He wants her dragging it, because, of course, it's heavy.

I've designed the carcass (scaled it down a bit to look better on stage,
and for weight) - but does anyone have any recommendations for legs that
(hopefully) won't tear up the floor, or splinter, split, and generally look
like crappe?  Maybe a dense hardwood like walnut?  (Easy to get...
something like ipe would be a journey for me....)

Other ideas?  (No metalworking available.)  Anyone else do this show
recently?
