As I believe someone mentioned, you can use the nylon from cutting boards
available at almost any general merchandise store. While it's not UHMW
plastic, it a suitable substitute that works fairly well. I usually would
attach the stuff to whatever with deeply countersunk flat head machine
screws and nylocks. I always through-bolted the stuff when possible. I
would make pads with beveled edges so they wouldn't snag on seams or pick
up bobby pins or the like.
