Hi Ken,
Thanks for the shout-out on the Vesuvio. We have found that a lot high schools and colleges (and at least 2 NFL Teams) are using them for this very thing.
For control, you might want to look at the MagicDMX from Chamsys. It’s $15 for the Basic (which operates for 5 hours, then you need to restart) or $100 for the Full version, and they have a very good software backend.
The software is a free download. I just recommended it to a community theatre that My wife and I work with, because it’s easy, and powerful. You can set it up to look and run like a Hog, or like a 2-scene preset console.
It is really, really easy to learn on.
You can purchase directly from them on-line<https://secure.chamsys.co.uk/magicdmx>.

Subject: [SML] Fog, lights, and football
Oh great wise list,
I was recently approached by my building principal about adding fog and possibly some lighting to our football team's field entrance for homecoming. My first thought was to use something like a G3000 or Vapour Plus fog machine but then I started thinking that something like the Chauvet Vesuvio RGBA may be a better choice. I get fog and light on the fog in one package. We would be doing our entrance effects off the field near the track. I believe power is available less than 50' from this spot. So far I am leaning towards 2 Vesuvio foggers and control from an Enttec USB DMX interface and some shareware/freeware software like Q light controller. Any advice other than do not have cables crossing the running path of the players?
Thanks
Ken Z
