Can you swap the hinges? The might be less drilling and whatever. If not, I would go with the mechanical fasteners. I have not found a reliable adhesive for Velcro... emphasis on "reliable". The best I found is epoxy used with the "sewing" type Velcro. The stick-on stuff almost always fails, in my experience. Also, I have never found anything that sticks to the plastic backed Velcro. Velcro also does wear out. Takes a while. But it does.
