In almost every shop I have worked there has been a DeWalt 12" chop saw. I
used to be a huge fan (which is kinda depressing on some level) but DeWalt
changed a bunch of stuff and while the newer saws still did the job and did
it well, they had become "unpleasant" to use: a weird, larger swing of the
motor (which was rather tiring when one has to make 100's of cuts) and an
annoying growling motor being a couple of the more offensive changes. Of
course, this is beside the point as the OP wants a 10" which is certainly
more realistic for a home shop as the 12" saws are frickin' huge.
And it's what I use.
I have a Makita 10" and I like it far better than any other saw I've used.
the reasons: small footprint, bigger table, smoother actions in all
regards, and the built-in laser is worth the price of admission. The only
drawback is that the larger table tends to attract detritus which makes the
table pivot grind a bit until the crap is cleaned out.
While I always am for one to purchase the best tool one can afford, I think
it is reasonable to consider the amount of use the tool is going to get. It
doesn't make financial sense to me to spend $300 on a saw that will see use
once or twice a year when a $99 piece o' crap saw will do the same job. I
am also a proponent of buying used tools.
Laters,
Paul 1
