I am sort-of looking for the same thing.  However, in my case, it is to act like a rehearsal/audition amp for a smartphone to play back an MP3 accompaniment track for a vocalist.  I want battery operation, with Bluetooth built in.  Budget is a concern, so I have a $100 absolute max price, and much preferably $50 max.

I have tried out several small, portable, Bluetooth speakers.  But, most didn't provide the wattage on the outside packaging. And when I tried them, they all failed my tests.  Some were quite wimpy, and had a fairly small speaker in relation to the housing. On some, when I turned the volume up past about 60%, there was a gross distortion or something physically rattling inside.
I realize that if a speaker is run by a 1-amp USB connection, the USB power will limit the wattage consumed to 5 watts. So, if a speaker with more wattage is to be run by plugging it in, it must have a 120v power cord, or other adapter that can provide the wattage.
I imagine that Matthew would want more wattage than myself, and may not need/want battery power. But, perhaps it is important to ask how many watts are needed to provide the volume comparable to a piano?
