Make the frame and linkage yourself. That’s the easy part. Buy the drum from a theatrical dealer/rigging company.

In this specific case, that is one my my winches which was made in
house. Find a local machinist who knows their stuff and they can make
you a drum for a not small price.

Discussing in class today moving scenery with manual deck winches. My
usual question came up….”Who makes these?”…
Does anyone actually make and sell these? I’ve been doing this theatre
stuff for 50 years and never really saw a commercial one ….Theatre I was
at in the early 80’s did buy two from scene shop in NYC but more as
surplus equipment than made for profit. Is it just not profitable
enough? How about a “kit”. I always had a hard time buying the
grooved drum…..just wondering. Many places still can’t afford Creative
Conners or others now selling automation.
Like this ……with or without the pneumatic brake.( mechanical would do)
….maybe with provision for adding a motor (90v dc pretty easy for those
starting out.)
