Friends,

As many of have heard, we were severely impacted by Hurricane Harvey at the Alley Theatre.
Here is a news report from today:

Here is a letter from our Managing Director, Dean Gladden:
Dear Alley friends,

Our thoughts are with everyone in this city so greatly impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

The Alley staff are all safe and dry, however some have lost possessions, automobiles, and homes due to flooding. Some are without power, have evacuated to other areas of the state, or have helped family members evacuate. We’re all still evaluating the personal impact of the storm.

The Alley Theatre building was devastated by flooding. The Neuhaus Theatre, adjacent Mitchell Lobby, prop storage and basement dressing rooms filled with water that reached the ceiling, past the high-water mark of 2001's Tropical Storm Allison. The Theatre’s electrical systems that provide power to the administrative offices, the Production Center, and both stages are under water and are offline. The Theatre’s Long Lobby and Hubbard Theatre did not receive any water damage.

We have cancelled this final weekend’s performances of Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps. Patrons with tickets have been contacted about how to exchange or donate tickets.

Our next production, the world premiere of Rajiv Joseph’s Describe the Night, will be moved to the Quintero Theatre at 3351 Cullen Boulevard on the University of Houston campus. The Alley’s second world premiere of the season, Lawrence Wright’s Cleo, is proceeding with rehearsals and a location for performances is currently being determined.

We are grateful for the outpouring of kind words and thoughts from you, our loyal patrons. Some have asked what they can do to help.

We need your help to rebuild the Theatre and continue producing the work you love.

To support our efforts, click here or text ALLEY to 41444.

We have also set up a tax-deductible Alley Theatre Employee Flood Assistance Fund for those staff members most in need. Please consider making a gift to support these individuals who have dedicated their lives to bringing great theatre to you, Houston, and the nation. Click here to donate or text ALLEYSTAFF to 41444.

We thank you for all that you do for Houston and the Alley Theatre. We look forward to an A-Plus season and are eager to be back at 615 Texas Avenue.

Loyally,
Dean R. Gladden
Managing Director

We will survive this & be stronger. We truly appreciate everyone's contacting us & checking in with us. It means the world to us to be part of such a tight & supportive community.
