[SML] Stagecraft Digest Question about TERRA NOVA

Just did a Readers Theater production with nothing but cheap thin white cotton blankets hung on the walls, some rehearsal boxes, and a piece of plywood with furniture glides and a length of rope. The men wore grey hoodies and thin black finger-tip-less gloves.
The fully staged production I saw decades ago built some iceberg wall shapes and brought in the local Sprayfoam guy. They said he was amazing. He looked it over, made some suggestions, came back later and whipped it out in minutes. It looked great.

Subject: [SML] Stagecraft Digest Question about TERRA NOVA
Hello
Is anyone on the list familiar or has been involved in a production of Terra Nova by Ted Tally - The story of the race to the south pole between Scott and Amundsen?
Working on ideas how to portray the Antarctic landscape as well as looking for someone that may have access to the sled prop that is needed for this play.
The play will be produced in early 2019.
Any thoughts are welcome.

Re: [SML] What do we call ERSs now in the LED era?
When I was a punk, all ERS units were generically called Lekos until the Source 4 came along. Curiously, those retained their name and were (and are) generally called Source 4s, in my experience.
At any rate, I?ve heard ?LED Leko?, ?LED Source 4?, and Source 4 LED? as generic terms.
We use S4 Lustre 2 units on my current show, and generally refer to them as ?Lustres?.
It would probably make sense for the term ?Profile? to make it in to general use, but it isn?t a familiar term to most people in the US currently. So, if you used it, you?d probably then have to explain what you meant.

I was taught to take a big "bus tub" (plastic tub) and put a few drops of baby shampoo in the bottom, add about 3" of luke-warm water to it and swish with my hand to blend. Take the wig by the front top inside seam - not the hair, but the sturdy part of the seam - and with the hair of the wig on the bottom of the tub, make large, slow figure 8s in the bottom of the tub. Don't wring, twist, or go backwards- keep the hair flowing behind. If the wig has a lot of styling products, it may need to sit for a few minutes before doing the figure 8s. Once it's well washed, dump out the soapy water and repeat the procedure without the soap at least twice more to get all the residue and soap out. Gently lay on a towel to carry so you don't put any pressure on the wig cap.
Take a canvas wig head that has been wrapped with a couple of layers of Saran Wrap/palletizing wrap and pin the cap in place using ribbon to hold the wig cap in place. With the wig head facing you, place the center of the ribbon on the top, front of the lace and pin, Work your way out to the sides with the ribbon placing pins every 1/2 inch or so in a zig-zag (think motorcycles riding staggered) to hold the wig lace in place. Roll onto curlers/set being gentle to keep the lace in place and not break hair. Dry in a wig dryer or air dry.
http://makeupbygill.blogspot.com/2011/11/wig-making-blocking.html. has some good photos, though I was taught to continue the ribbon around the back side of the head, too.

It's been decades since I dealt with wigs myself, but this looks like good advice:

Hello All,
I have a show coming up where we will be using a wig made of human hair that will be getting dirty over the time of the show. Normal use in a hot dry climate in an outdoor theater. So, dust blown on in the wind, sweat and touches of makeup at the edges.
Any good tips and tricks for cleaning as we go? I haven't dealt with wings since college more than 30 years ago.

I see the main stage held but the entrance structure blew over.? Bet
nobody paid much attention to it when they assembled it, all attention
probably on the main stage.
At least 14 people who gathered for a Backstreet Boys concert in
Oklahoma have been injured after a severe storm blew over an outdoor
entrance structure.
