That's not ugly. You're just not finished decorating it yet. Looks like you could add a pocket to the side and keep the colored markers right there.

It's ugly, made from scrap, but it fills a needed function in our 
shop. Most importantly, it saves us from having to bend over lots of 
times every time we pull truss bolts for an order. My back appreciates 
this a lot.
