[SML] stupid question

Re Thunderbird...  I can't ask on their forum as I don't have a FireFox 
account

Since they seem to break all the plugins every bleeping time they update 
and as far as I know you can no longer disable updates on Linux, is 
there any reason I shouldn't just purge it from the system and use 
something functional?  Like maybe they'll come to their senses and quit 
breaking things?
