[SML] 1/4" tempered hardboard?

Just as a data point, 1/4" tempered hardboard (neé Masonite) is still a stock item in the places we source things in Vermont (local lumber yards, big chains as last resort), at about $21 per sheet.  MDF is also available here in 1/4".  It's not as dense, and is more fragile to work with because of that, but can work - I'm pleasantly surprised it holds up for South Coast Rep's uses of it, with wagons etc.  We just ran a pretty large wheels-down turntable over our hardboard-covered stage floor and over the course of the run we had compression failure of the underlying paint layer but none in the hardboard the paint was on.
