Or has the current tape been sitting and aging (whether on your shelf or the retailer’s) for the past 12 months…….
(to answer your question: progaff, 18 months old on our shelves, seem fine for 1 day usage.)

On a related note, has anyone else had issues with their normally well-behaved gaff starting to leave a lot more adhesive residue behind on cables? I've used several brands (the usual ones, Apollo & Pro Gaff come to mind), and in the last year or two it seems like the formulation of the adhesive has changed a bit. What would normally have pulled off cleanly or with only a few small spots of transferred / gummy adhesive is now leaving behind long strips of nastiness that have to be cleaned up.
I've ordered from suppliers who ship a lot of tape, so I'm pretty sure my rolls were reasonably fresh and not stored in poor conditions. Perhaps it's a cost-cutting measure? Maybe I need to start buying the more expensive varieties than the $15/roll options. Or maybe I'm just remembering old gaff tape through rose-colored glasses.
