Further to some of the other comments
Further to Jims Comment, The cruise ships are now retrofitting engine rooms
with the heat detecting cameras, they are noticeably quicker and more
accurate than traditional detectors, so it seems that the technology has
matured, they are running both systems as far as i know
And further to Dale's Commnet, yes the ships use a fine mist system, part
of it is that it uses less water and is less likely to sink the ship, and
part is, it is more effective. One note we were always given is that the
mist systems displace the oxygen, so get the hell out if it goes off.I
don't think they were using distilled water, but could be wrong.
