Hi Joe,
In my experience, we have not been able to get a white laser that was safe and legal without a variance.
And even a 2 watt laser is easily powerful enough to cause eye damage, if used incorrectly.
I would be suspicious of the Laser Pointer company that offers this.

Subject: [SML] Laser projection for white stars
I would like to create a realistic starry sky effect to fill an auditorium. For a number of years, I've been keeping my eye out for when someone makes a laser projector that creates white stars, and doesn't show an obvious grid pattern. I am glad to see that a manufacturer finally decided to create one. I've seen such a unit listed as "Night Sky White Twinkling Stars Universe Laser". Available in both 2 and 5 watt configurations. Though anything from China should be assumed to have extremely exaggerated specs)
However, I am having difficulty finding a source in the U.S. And, hopefully, from a good dealer. Though, perhaps there is a reason there are no good dealers who will carry this device.
Also, 5 watts is a lot of laser power. I realize that this is dividing the beam into many points, so even if it is 5 watts, each point is a small fraction of the total power. Also, some Chinese laser pointer mfg, have been known for omitting the infrared filter, creating more potential harm. So, I wonder if this unit is eye safe?
Anyone familiar with this particular unit? Or how about alternatives?
-Joe
