[SML] Fire alarms and atmospheric effects

Well, I've been threatening or promising to try to get NFPA 72 National
Fire Alarm and Signaling Code to address this issue for some time.
Spurred by a comment elsewhere and having more time in retirement, I
decided to look up schedule for submitting change proposals - "public
inputs" in NFPA speak - and its June 4, 2025 for the 2028 edition.
I'm going to submit something along the lines of what it seems many have
worked out with local authorities, basically a way to silence the alarm and
in its place have a fire watch. I hope that there is a way for a
theatre staff person to be approved for the fire watch rather than the only
option being to hire someone from the fire service.
I encourage anyone to submit their own change proposals - easy - just go to
nfpa site and search for nfpa 72 and you'll find the instructions and
the online forms - probably in less than 5 minutes. The most important
thing is to submit specific changes to a specific section of the code, and
that is not so easy. I still struggle after 38 years of doing it
regularly. Somehow paper, pen, and post office seemed easier but that
option is long gone.
You can also post ideas here or directly to me and I promise I will
consider them and will intend to respond.
