I also see that the multi-rope sized one is supposedly capable of holding a ¼" line. You could try getting one and testing it. I would not use it to hold something in the air especially over someone's heads.
If you are using it as a marker on the line to know when to stop a rope that would be a more appropriate use for it. This is not an industry standard item in theater or events, so you could get fried if someone got hurt trying to count on it holding something overhead.
