[SML] Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival Fwd: Campus Closed This Weekend

 I knew Kat from work they did here in Wisconsin. Fabulous theater technician. 
Ironically, the day they died, JP posted job openings citing folks going back to college. An acquaintance who has a college-age kid that wants to work in the industry shared the job posting asking “Are all employers this cruel?” 
Interns - by law - are not supposed to do the work of a regular employee. 
I’m livid.
A friend died because the employer was cutting corners. Didn’t properly staff for the season nor train the staff they did have. 
Our safety work continues...

    In case folks had not heard, this past Friday, Jacobs Pillow Dance 
Festival in Becket, Mass had a fatal accident, killing their production 
manager.
    Apparently she and one of the interns were rolling a cart piled with 
sections of dance floor down a ramp when it got away from them.  She 
tripped and fell in front of the cart, and it tipped onto her, dumping 
the contents on top of her.   First aid was performed, EMS called, but 
she did not survive.
    OSHA, and local police investigated, and ruled accidental death. 
Jacobs Pillow has since announced they are ending their season. 
Workplace safety is important.  No show is worth your life.
    Raise a glass in her memory, and celebration of her life.

of a beloved member of Jacob’s Pillow’s staff: Kat Sirico.


Kat was a Pillow alum and an essential and hugely devoted leader on our 
team. Their spirit, generosity, and dedication touched the lives of 
many. We are holding their family, friends, and colleagues in our hearts 
as we grieve together.


All performances and events on Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3 
have been canceled and the campus will be closed. We will resume 
performances next week.
