For a non moving loop mid line I would say that an Alpine Butterfly would be the knot of choice. The loop will not slip like a slip knot, which, as the name says, will slip. The alpine butterfly is not directional so pulling it in either direction, or both, is OK. It does take a bit more skill to tie, but I have taught it to enough eleven year olds to believe that it is not beyond most folks skills.
