As Bill said, sewing curtains is not the same as sewing a garment.  You need a much bigger workspace.  If you can get it clean enough and keep it clear the stage can work.  If you are making a flat panel without fullness the sewing is not that hard, although a few people may be needed to manage getting the material through the machine

Duvetyne is cheap, but if you get the FR material be aware that you can't wash it without removing the FR chemicals.  IFR velour would be a better choice if you can afford it.

One thing that has not been mentioned yet is the importance of making sure the nap on every panel faces the same direction.  Preferably down so it collects less dust.

Consider making a few smaller panels to tie overlapped rather than one ginormous panel covering the entire wall.  They will be lighter to install and more versatile for other uses.

However, paint will be less expensive if you can get permission
