 Sometimes a projector with an ultra-wide throw lens mounted on a regular batten or two may be enough. RP takes depth to make it look good. 
Many schools have Epson contracts and their short-throw lenses work really well for these applications. May be you just need to buy the lenses and rigging hardware to hang what your school already owns.

Maybe use it during a concert to project images or videos themed to the music.  When we host a contest, project the name of the school/group.  Just something to use all around in addition to what we already have.
