And an update on the "weak heater" in our 3D printer. Got the
printer back, they replaced the entire "hot end" so that's the
heating cartridge, the temperature sensor, and the aluminum block
they're mounted in. I think it's a new nozzle too.<br>
<br>
They also did something to the motherboard, it now has an electronic
power fail safety brake that wasn't there before. Now on power
failure the table lowers slowly instead of crashing down.<br>
<br>
The bad news is, it wouldn't print normal PLA any better than
before. After some back and forth with them, they said they'll only
guarantee their brand of PLA (which didn't even exist when we bought
the printer). I got a spool of that, prints ok but is a different
texture, limited colors, not translucent, and not food-grade. But,
I guess it meets the letter of their description that the machine
also prints PLA, just nothing that was available until recently.<br>
<br>
So...turned the couch upside down for change and talked my way into
a non-advertised discount on a new printer of a different brand that
WILL print PLA, Nylon, carbon fiber, ceramic, etc. Got it in kit
form to make it a LOT cheaper. Sharon will do most of the assembly,
"only" 20 hours of labor estimated by the manufacturer.<br>
<br>
Unexpected machine upgrades on a budget.<br>
