<p>The practiconers in this field usually have seriously impaired hearing, not to mention their audiences.<br /></p>
<p>Two examples. A DJ who ran his cans from a 50W stereo amplifier.<br /></p>
<p>The second is rather more alarming. I was once responsible for the design of a broadcast-quality disco system. I went out with it, once, with a B & K measuring system, and measured 110dBA at 1M on axis from the speakers. The kids at the show were leaning on the speakers, and chatting to each other. Now, they are probably in need of hearing assistance.<br /></p>
<p>I have always been careful. I have avoided exposure to high sound levels. My hearing is no worse than might be expected in a man of 76. Age takes its toll.<br /></p>
