<div dir="ltr">On one of lighter-weight days on the Bench, I received a case that was not something that a Superior Court is supposed to decide. Because nobody was waiting, instead of dismissing the case immediately, I passed a note telling the Clerk, Court Reporter, and Deputy to relax, and I then heard the case. It concerned a student who was accused of corking his bat. I told him to approach the dry-erase board normally used to diagram auto collisions, and 'Show the Court' the physics of why using a corked bat would give a player an advantage, and I would dismiss the case (which I had to do in any event). The Student-Athlete did so, and drew some excellent drawings that explained accurately the physics of corking a bat, including using the right formulas, including solving for multiple variables. I was astounded, to say the least, and asked him to diagram the physics of what happens to the trajectory of a baseball when you put a blob of tar on it (just in case her was a one-trick pony). Again he drew accurate drawings including the right formulas, solving for multiple variables. A few months later, I was judging a Science Fair, as I do frequently, and this same student was there, dressed and groomed like a jock, with a winning project.
