<p>Two prong attack,</p>
<p>1) Ask to see the budget rationale. Who figured out these
numbers and what basis did they use? This is more of a
gamesmanship move to try an make the point that these numbers are
not realistic. The remote hope is that a) "they" might find a
little more money for this year, especially for the musical. and
b) that in the future they will consult with you about before
setting the budget. (You can always dream.)<br>

<p>2) As has been stated, you need to find other sources of
funding. Sponsors, angels, fund raisers (show merch, vip
experience, etc.) I would not "sell" casting parts.</p>

<p>Just for comparison, we do a 2 show, Christmas Concert in which
the budget is ~$15K. But then almost everything is either done
by volunteers or by in-house departments (communications,
maintenance) and their only charges are direct costs (postage,
printing, etc.) So mainly the money goes to set, A/V rental,
advertising, special props and SFX. Most costumes are in stock
and the choir provides there own attire. <br>

university in the upper plains. We have just been given an
amazing new theatre facility in which we can do our three to
four shows a year. Including the ‘big’ musical. However, the
budget I have for these shows is ridiculous and I am trying to
explain to my administration that the money is not enough for
what they expect from me and the department. I should also
mention that I do not have any other money allocated to me
except for the show budgets and a travel budget for my
students and I. The budget below is ‘all’ the money I receive
each academic year.<o:p></o:p></p>
