Sad news indeed. I had the privilege to work with Dick at Cornell and am proud to count him as a friend.

<div class="">I always loved it when the PM would come into Dick’s office, (which was as usual piled high with random paperwork on every available surface), demanding to know some trivial detail about budget or schedule and Dick would immediately go to the
correct heap, pull out the exact page needed and give the answer.<br class="">

<div class="">I always looked forward to our visits at USITT.</div>

Dick Archer, Technical Director at Cornell University, mentor to many of us, and longtime contributor to the list has passed.<o:p class=""></o:p></div>

He was recently moved into Hospice, and surrounded by family at the time of his passing.<o:p class=""></o:p></div>

He had been battling liver cancer (ironic, as he never touched drugs or alcohol) for the last year and change.<o:p class=""></o:p></div>

Dick has been an incredible resource to many of us over the years. He was a stagehand at Woodstock, mentored Tom Hanks (as a stagehand, not actor) at the Great Lakes Theatre, and worked as both a Professor at Cornell and freelance TD for the last several decades.<o:p class=""></o:p></div>

He was a sometimes curmudgeon (though never with a bit of spite), with a fantastic sense of humor who was almost world famous for his ability to mutter under his breath (somewhat like Yosemite Sam), while making himself perfectly clear.<o:p class=""></o:p></div>

Dick was fantastically talented, brilliant, and extremely practical. <o:p class=""></o:p></div>
