What types of things are you looking to do? Are you visiting those cities for family or for any particular activity?

I'm sure you already know this about Memphis, but it bears repeating: Memphis is not Disneyland. Crime and poverty are high, and the law of the jungle is at play. Keep your head on a swivel and don't veer off from the areas with lots of tourists.

As for Nashville, there are more bars and honkey-tonks downtown on Broadway than you can count; just follow your ears. If you want something indoors and kinda relaxing, walking through the multiple atriums of the Opryland Hotel is free and worth an hour of your time (they're massive and pretty neat). Park in the north section of the Opry Mills mall and walk over. If you guys are into country music, a show at the Grand Ol' Opry is fun; the musical lineup is never the same twice. If you want to see a show, TPAC is the local large theater, and the Schermerhorn is where the symphony concerts are held. If you like Hot Chicken, Prince's and Hattie B's are the originators of the recent fad. Personally, I'm more of a fan of Jack's BBQ. If downtown Nashville is too overwhelming for you, then drive 20 minutes south and walk through downtown Franklin. If you like Civil War era history, there are several antebellum mansions that are preserved and open for tours in the Franklin area. The battle of Franklin is considered to have been one of the bloodiest of the whole war. The Nashville Zoo is medium-sized and pretty decent. The Predators are the local hockey team. As for the concert touring industry, a lot of it is based out of Nashville. If you have any particular shops you want to say hello to, look them up and swing by. The people of Nashville are very nice.
