Definitely depends on the 'depth' of the apron/pit filler, but our pit
filler might be a good solution. Our removable portion is about 8
feet 'deep' at the center of the curved apron (from curve DS to
straight line US) - and we have a stress-skin solution, with each
piece 2 feet wide. As I wrote, the center one is about 8 feet long,
and as one moves stage right or left, the pieces get shorter, down to
a little chunk that's lift-able by one person. The pieces are heavy,
but are liftable by 2 high schoolers.... we have threaded rods that go
into threaded holes in the fillers, and we lift them out, put them
onto one of two heavy-duty carts, and roll them away. (Revealing our
net below.)
I believe our pit filler was designed by Landry & Bogan (our theatre
consultants), and fabricated by Stagecraft Industries. I can provide
pics if someone wants.
