I'm a fan of Becky's Bar which is on 18th, just North of Chester. Good
food and well within walking distance of Playhouse Square. I've had no
problems walking through the area day or night but I would recommend
walking with a buddy. On one of Dave V's tours a few years back some
members of his company were mugged.

The only thing worse then getting mugged on your way there is a potential
karaoke night that might be going on. They can be brutal.

Otto Moser's is right next to Playhouse Square and although it moved from
its original location, it has deep roots as a theatrical bar in the area.

The Haufbrau House just opened right behind Playhouse Square on Chester.
Very German as the name would entail. I have not been there yet and don't
really know if there is a bar with it or just table dining.
