Guy I know is the networking guy for the University of Hawaii, and this
is his latest thing.

This is the temporary link to his demonstration server that he is
publishing to try and get some load benchmarks for sizing the permanent
video server. So, Mr Phelps, this link will self-destruct once that
has been accomplished.

Live video stream from the ALOHA underwater oceanographic observatory at
4735 meters down, off the coast of Hawaii. And I got kind of a
giggle when I opened up the stream while I was waiting in line at the
deli a couple hours ago. That I was watching live video feed from a
couple of miles underwater, a third of the way around the planet, on my
portable telephone. Living in the future is sometime really freaking
awesome. *laughs*

Future plans are the second camera, and a waterfall display of the
hydrophone data. He also mentions that the lights are hugely expensive
oil filled LED lamps. And to change one, when it burns out, costs $60k
per day for the ROV and mothership to change it.

You may need to cut and paste this direct into VLC viewer on windows
machines, association doesn't work.
