Also had an MCI-Mail account.  I set my mom up with one and got her the
little MCI terminal.  LCD text screen, keyboard, and modem all in one
little box.  Compose off-line and then send.  We exchanged a LOT of
e-mails through that. 

You could also have MCI print out documents for you and then mail them
to you so you didn't need to own a printer.
