[SML] /media ghost disks

I've suddenly got three ghost disks in my /media directory that are
screwing up Ubuntu. By the names, the first two are some old drives I
plugged in to reformat and the third is a USB thumb drive.
None of these are currently attached to the system but when I reboot
UBUNTU hangs waiting for these drives to be ready until I tell it to
skip them. And then they're STILL in /media.
So, I know how to unmount if it was mounted, but how do I get rid of a
drive that doesn't exist?
